Overview

The renovated Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv is Israel’s largest and most modern basketball stadium.

The Scope of Work included the supply, installation and operation of 4 York water cooled chillers with an overall cooling output of 5,600 kW (1,600 TR), cooling towers, air handling’ power supply, and control systems.

The project entailed the upgrading of the old arena beyond recognition: The seating capacity was increased from 9,000 to 18,000, 24 VIP boxes were constructed, a modern shopping centre set up, a basement storey was excavated and built to accommodate changing rooms, press offices, a gymnasium etc; all the HVAC and smoke extraction systems were also upgraded. 

The chiller system includes 2 water cooled centrifugal units with an output of 450 TR each and a further 2 water cooled screw units with an output of 350 TR each. The water cooled units are of the water condensation type, and the cooling towers were manufactured by Yerushalmi Ltd.

The air handling system comprises an air handling unit, smoke extractor fans and WS type end units.

The electrical and control systems encompass 30 power supply and control panels, complete electrical installations for all the equipment, complete building control systems including communications and indication monitors at the control centre.

Operation, adjustments and commissioning were carried out by Mashav technicians qualified for this task by York Ltd.
